Yesterday Fergus was off, biting me all day from the moment he got up. He didn’t sleep much during the day and my guess is that he didn’t get enough sleep. He was pacing around in the house looking and letting out occasional moan but I had no idea what was wrong with him.
Today we got up at 8.30, we had breakfast as usual. We went for a walk around the garden and Fergus did his business in the wood, which is good as he was getting lazy and just doing it on path by the house. He didn’t eat much breakfast, but wanted mine, kept jumping up. He was outside at first with his breakfast, came in during mine. Eventually I put him in the crate till I had finished. He came out played for a short time, then came on to my lap as usual and fell asleep very quickly at 9.30.
He slept for two hours till 11.30. We went for a walk round the garden, then some play, thrown fetch toys, sticks etc. Then we went inside as he was getting a bit bitey. He played in kitchen, sat on my lap with chewy toy. Gave him a toilet roll tube with treat inside. Enjoyed that. We went outside with another treat tube, and then I put a treat inside a small box. He enjoyed playing with these and got the treat each time. We went for another walk around the garden and he got bitty on the way. Used a stick to deflect from my legs. Brought him back inside and he sat on my lap again and fell asleep at about 13.00.
Woke up 13.40, not long sleep. We went for walk round the garden, played a little then went for a walk at front of house on the lead for ten minutes, followed by a couple more minutes back in garden where the growling started, so back into house where he came onto my lap and fell asleep at 14.10.
He woke up at 15.10. and we went out to play fetch in the garden, and have a couple of walks round it. When he began to get cranky we came in. Still a bit hyper, but calmed down eventually and fell asleep on my lap at 16.15.
Up again at 17.15 and is quiet. We went for a walk round the garden and he did some exploring. Happy chewing toys for now. Thought I spotted a flea on him, certainly some bug or other scurrying off as I brushed it away. Now feel itchy.
For tea I included some of my salad celery, cucumber, lettuce with his meat as he always wants mine. He seemed to enjoy the veg and ate some of his meat too. I managed to get most of my tea in peace, although he did go into the crate by himself which helped. He cried to get out, even though I thought he’d fall asleep. When he did he only wanted to be on my lap to sleep, then back in crate at 18.40.
Up again at 19.30 we went out for a walk twice round the garden, but as usual when we come back in the evening like this, he is more alive and bitey. It’s difficult to play with him up close as he constantly bites. Tried the garden again but it’s raining and he’s not so keen (neither am I 😊)
Back in house tried being with him in kitchen but he wanted back in sitting room. Gave him half a venison chew, which last about ten minutes. Now has the other half, should be ready for sleep after that.
Ended up pacing around looking for more and just wouldn’t settle. Ended up in crate. He barked and howled in protest. I sat and clapped him for a few minute and sleeping at 21.00.
Woke up again at 22.30 took him out for pee and back into crate, where he went back to sleep. This will be the first night of trying him in the kitchen instead of in my room.
