Instead of giving Fergus treats I prepared treat challenges, where I put treats inside a container. I collected cardboard tubes and boxes and each day would put a treat inside and gave them to Fergus to try and work out how to get the treat.
Mainly this involved chewing, but he stuck to the task and was always successful in the end, and he seemed to look forward to receiving the daily challenge.
