Diary Entry 4th – 7th June 2021

04/06/2021

Fergus up at 7.30 today. We went round garden he came back in and as usual jumped up at me as I was putting dishes away and preparing the breakfast. Today instead of putting him off till after breakfast I had him on my lap. He fussed over me for a bit then wanted down so he could go into crate by himself again. I made breakfast, lots of noise, he dosed a bit opening his eyes occasionally to see what was going on. I opened the conservatory door to open blinds/curtains and he shot through and on to the sofa. He loves the conservatory and would happily sleep there given the chance like when he first arrived. Put him back in crate for now as was to encourage that. He can get back to conservatory when he is fully house trained and not chewing stuff.

He went to sleep at 8.00, but still awake off and on till 8.35. Up around 9.15am and not lasting long before being grumpy again. Went for lead walk up the road, there was a lot of heavy traffic. Fergus scared a bit at first, but settled. A lorry reversing down the road, close up encounter.

Resisted going to sleep so I left him and got on with other stuff, as he was biting if I tried playing with him. Eventually went to crate himself at 12.25pm. Emerged at 2.00pm. We played throwing, paddling, skooshing him with eater pistol. Tired had a small sleep beside me.

We lay in the sun and later I went to wash the car. Fergus was full of fun trying to eat the soap bubbles from the pail, running off with my sponge, fighting with the brushes, and the hose. When we came along to the garden he suddenly changed demeanour into the deep growling savage dog he can be and attacked me on the steps. Managed to grab him after a few attempts and put him in the crate. No protests, he was very tired, sleeping right away at 5.00pm. Awake about 6.15pm we were going to go to Dunbar for our first outside walk away from here, but he started scratching away at the seat and tried to chew the seat belts. Aborted the trip. Will wait until the bed arrives to put him in and if that doesn’t work it’ll have to be the travel crate, which will not be popular.

Went for walk up the toad on lead, but these are developing into a similar pattern where he won’t go up the road without encouragement and on the way back he is dragging me. Not sure why. Played in garden where he managed to get lion’s tail off ???? still biting and being awkward. He went into his crate by himself again to sleep at 7.30pm. Up at about 8.45pm came through and joined me on settee. Good at first with chewy, but started ripping up the cover and biting, put into kitchen. Another try a while later failed and he was put outside for five minutes. Whining at door. Came in much calmer, fine on settee, had a little sleep. 10.15-10.45pm we went out up road for walk and then out the back and he got crazy again biting on way down. Bed about 11.15pm.

Fergus up at 7.30am this morning with the usual howls. Went for walk round the garden came back and after a short play he wanted to sleep. He got up when I went into the conservatory to open blinds, he likes it there. Went back into crate sleeping, but within half an hour he was up when he realised I was having my coffee in the conservatory. Not had enough sleep and biting. Put into crate and barking mad right now and won’t stop. Usual strategy not working as he sets out to wreck the bedding. After a time of barking and he stopped when I came in I let him out again and he just played or sat in the sun. If I join in he gets rough so just leave him as he’s happy fighting sleep. After doing a few things and him coming to see me I got the hoover out, he doesn’t like the hoover so he went to the crate and fell asleep. Not sure when he went to sleep but it lasted about an hour. Then he lay in sun with me, then chewed stuff, and we played fetch till he was getting agitated. Gave him a puzzle treat, which he seemed to enjoy. Later we went for a walk on the lead up the road. We went through the wood today. He had his lunch when we got back and then off to sleep at 1.50pm. Up after maybe 45minutes. Played another puzzle treat with a bottle this time. Too hot today to play games, Fergus is a little grumpy but won’t come in.

We lay in the sun most of the afternoon and Fergus was in and out of the shade. Got him in the paddling pool and when he was bad biting I used the water pistol on him as it works well.

I added a bit of steak mince to his lunch and he polished it off and the same with his tea. Walking up the road he is starting to circle back or just sit down and not move. When we get back he is crazy as ever so it’s not that he’s tired. Later I gave him a chewy thing which worked to keep him quiet for a time, but he started biting and ripping cover to bits. Put in crate for short sleep. Back on settee later, better behaved, then not so good again back in crate. When it was time to go for last walk he wasn’t going to budge, but lifted out of crate. In bed by 12.00 midnight.

Fergus up at 8.00am. Walk round garden did everything, had breakfast later, but only slept for about half an hour, so will be grumpy soon.

Went for longer walk up the road then through the wood to the river and back up to the road. Fergus still doing that circling back and sitting down thing because he doesn’t want to walk any further, then rushes back. Tried the training thing – walk, wait, sit but seems preoccupied with getting back. Played in the garden for a bit, starting to bite, we came in he went to crate at 10.50am. I went to Dunbar for fuel and he was still asleep at 11.50, but up at 12.00. Did a couple of puzzle treats and fetch play, but started to get cranky wanted up on my lap to sleep at 1.10pm. Up about 2.00pm.

Had a good run around, and an attempt to go out in the car. Sleeping at 3.10pm.

Up around 4.00pm we had another go at going out in the car, this time in the travel crate. We got along to Grantshouse but there was barking, scratching and possible chewing going on so not sure how long the crate will survive.

Put tea out but he never ate any of it really. Played in garden went for a walk up the Riad and came on the settee for the usual chewing session. Popped back in crate a couple of times during evening for short sleeps. Out on our late walk at 11.30pm and in bed by 12.00 midnight.

Fergus barked around 7.20 and I was going to get up when it stopped. He lasted until 8.40am which was very good. We had a walk round the garden, he sat in sun didn’t eat much breakfast after the usual commotion. Went for a sleep by himself at 9.30.

Up at about 10.30 we went hog a walk up the road on the lead. Again we went through the wood and up to the road. Long blether with neighbours. Two puzzle treats as wasn’t keen on playing fetch games. Seems. To be getting the hang of the treat being inside instead of eating the box. Resisting sleep again, rather than go to crate he is sitting in the sunshine. Fergus has come in eventually at 1.00pm and has gone into his crate. Fergus up after 2.00pm sat with me in sun. Did puzzle treat lost interest wanted to bite. Went for a sleep a couple of times over the afternoon by himself and once where I closed the door. After tea, which he didn’t eat he had another sleep and when he woke up we went to Pease Bay his first outing. The journeys weren’t very bad, he did bark and scratched at the crate , but hopefully that will settle in future. Tired now at 8.20pm sleeping. Up after less than an hour tried him on the settee with me last a short time popped into crate to sleep. Only had about 10 minutes then whining. I brought him back to the settee where he snuggled into me for an hour and a half, we then went up the road all the way, he did all of his business and in crate at 11.30. Not too thrilled though, started whining again. Quick word and he was fine.
