At the end of November and into December 2021 there was a huge storm in Scotland, which is the worst we have seen in living memory. It was called Arwen.
Arwen was devastating in that whole forests were flattened, huge trees snapped like twigs with the force of the winds. One of the tall trees in our garden broke in half and came down on the power line just missing the car and house.
The power line didn’t break, instead the tree balanced on top of the line until the power company came and cut the line free. Unfortunately they left the tree balanced dangerously on the pergola, which came down in another storm which followed Arwen, but that’s another story.
However we did lose power for six days and had to survive with our log burning fire. Cooking was also done on this fire, and torches and candles provided our light. Phones and other devices had to be charged in the car. It’s amazing just how much we rely on electricity and don’t appreciate it until something like this makes you very aware of our dependancy.
Fergus enjoys sitting in fron of the log burner and during this time I took a photo, which I later used as our Christmas card. Here is gthe before and after.
