Tyninghame Beach near Dunbar!

The east coast of Scotland has some great beaches, Dunbar beach at West Barns is particularly appealing as it is quiet and beautiful.

Just a little further up the coast is Tyninghame Beach, similar to Dunbar and just as beautiful and quiet. We started making a few trips there for our daily walk. The car park in at the start of a Scots Pine wood, which surrounds the beach. There is the choice to walk round the woodland trail in a circuit, and take in the beach later or just walk straight to the beach.

We have done both as they are a pleasant walk. I haven’t let Fergus off the lead as there are many dogs being walked here and Fergus likes to go off and play with them. When we get to the beach, I let Fergus off lead too. He is still not able to come back when called, and can take off great distances to play with a dog he might have seen.

On this particular visit the beach was quiet, but on our way there along the trail we came across some ponies. This was Fergus’ first encounter with a pony or horse as he hasn’t seen any where we live. He just looked at them and I think given the chance, he would have gone on to play with them if he could. He has this reaction with lambs through a fence, both the lambs and Fergus look like they want to play.

I hope this calm meeting with ponies will be helpful in the future should we come across any horses on our walks.
